About Public Health Service Athletics
Our Mission
Public Health Service Athletics (PHSA) promotes health, fitness, leadership, visibility, and service through organized athletic and wellness activities led by officers in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
Through participation in athletic events, fitness challenges, community outreach activities, and wellness initiatives, PHSA encourages healthy lifestyles while strengthening readiness, camaraderie, and public visibility of the Commissioned Corps.
Our guiding motto is:
Get Fit. Stay Fit.
Our History
Founded in 2014, PHSA began an effort to encourage fitness and camaraderie among officers of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
Since its founding, PHSA has supported hundreds of events involving thousands of participants and supporters representing diverse professional categories, agencies, and communities.
Today, PHSA continues to expand opportunities for officers and partners to engage in fitness, wellness, outreach, and leadership activities while representing the values of the Commissioned Corps.
What We Do
PHSA supports a wide range of activities, including:
Running and walking events
Cycling events
Swimming events
Hiking and outdoor recreation
Multi-sport activities
Virtual fitness challenges
Community wellness initiatives
Partner-sponsored athletic events
Leadership Through Service
PHSA is built upon volunteer leadership. Event leaders play a critical role in identifying opportunities, organizing activities, documenting participation, and helping others engage in healthy lifestyles.
By leading events, volunteers develop leadership skills while creating opportunities for others to participate in meaningful fitness and wellness activities.
PHSA believes that leadership is not defined by position alone—it is demonstrated through initiative, service, mentorship, and the ability to bring people together around a common purpose.
Measuring Impact
PHSA is committed to accurately documenting participation and organizational impact. Through standardized participation tracking, PHSA is able to measure engagement across events, locations, and populations while recognizing the contributions of both leaders and participants.
This data helps ensure that the organization can demonstrate its reach, identify growth opportunities, and recognize the volunteers who make PHSA successful.
Looking Ahead
As PHSA continues to grow, we remain focused on expanding opportunities for participation, supporting volunteer leaders, and promoting the health, readiness, and visibility of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.
Whether you are participating in your first event or leading your own initiative, we invite you to join us in advancing health through fitness.
Get Fit. Stay Fit.
